Mark Yeary

Howdy! I'm a music geek. My musical interests include melodic improvisational practices (from discant to jazz), the effects of irregular meter and rhythmic interruption, and the dissolution of "functional" harmony from Wagner to the present.

At a broader level, I am looking to uncover and comprehend the affective elements of music, moving beyond an "under the hood" examination of the musical work. Initially inspired by Leonard Meyer's Emotion and Meaning in Music, my research is further fueled by recent work in the fields of auditory perception, cognitive philosophy, cultural studies, and literary theory.

When I'm not studying music, I'm usually playing music. I play double bass and electric bass guitar, roving between musical genres as needed. My main gig is the ultra-secretive Axes of Evil, but it's too evil to discuss at length here.
