Helen A. Farson

Helen Farson graduated from UCSB in 1999 with a Bachelor of Music degree and an emphasis in collaborative piano. She taught group lessons at a children's music school for several years and formed a choral group for the performance of sacred art music. She also free-lanced as pianist for several churches. She commenced graduate studies in musicology at UCSB in 2001. She is interested in studying Handel's oratorios in the context of 18th Century British politics and religious thought. In 2003 she read a paper at the American Musicological Society Pacific Southwest Chapter meeting entitled Handel's Opening Recitative and Aria in the Cantata Nell' africane selve as a Window into His Italian Sojourn.
Helen continues to teach and study piano as well as conduct several church choirs. Her most recent foray involved conducting Bach's Wachet auf! during an Evensong program.
