Charlene Insun Chi

Lyric-Mezzo Soprano.
Born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Charlene started her education in music with the violin at the age of three, and the piano at age four. A member of the Toronto Korean-Canadian Youth Ensemble for several years, she then decided to look into other instruments. Upon entering academy, Ms. Chi then started on the flute, becoming the pricipal chair in the Portland Adventist Academy Concert Band, state champions.
Teaching music within the classroom for the past seven years, Ms. Chi also directed many ensembles and was the sole administrator of the music department at Mile High Academy, a K-12 private school. She was also an active soloist in the Portland, Denver, and Los Angeles communities.


Currently under the tutelage of Professor Elizabeth Mosher, this is Charlene's first year at UCSB, working towards a Masters in Vocal Performance. She is currently the alto section leader in the Santa Barbara Choral Society, and is also studying the role of Siebel for the upcoming performance of Gounod's Faust in October 2004, with the Santa Barbara Opera. Charlene is a Teaching Associate for Music 20A (elementary voice), and continues to run a private studio in west Los Angeles.
