Anita Ip

Born in the USA and raised in Northeim, Germany, Anita moved to California in 1996 after finishing her Abitur. Having enjoyed a purely Germanic education for the first eighteen years of her life, she was able to focus on music upon arrival. Anita completed two years at a junior college in San Diego, then earned a B.M. in vocal performance in 2000 from the University of California, Irvine. There, she went through the history series of Margaret Murata, studied with Christina Dahlin (voice), Rosemary Hyler (vocal coach), and had the oppertunity to sing for reknowned collabrative pianist Martin Katz.

In the years following her degree, Anita took a detour into the business world and worked as a director of an educational center for two and a half years. In order to pursue a career in teaching, she earned a certificate in ESL (English as a Second Language) from San Diego State University, before arriving at UC Santa Barbara in the fall of 2003.

Currently, Anita is a graduate student under the guidance of Derek Katz, Stefanie Tcharos, and William Prizer. She is also a teaching assistant for music appreciation course, and works at the music library as graduate reference assistant under the watchful eye of music librarian Eunice Schroeder.

Anita's interest are widespread. However, she is most curious about late Baroque music (especially the music of J.S. Bach), and French repertoire at the turn of the century (Hahn, Poulenc). The aesthics of humor in music is also of special interest.
